The app overlays a real-time color sound map onto your phone screen — red for the strongest signal, blue for the weakest. If you can use a camera app, you can use the TD2 Geek. It was built for creators, educators, homeowners, and nature lovers, not just industrial inspectors.
No — the TD2 Geek has its own built-in rechargeable battery that lasts up to 4 hours. It's a self-powered device, meaning your phone's battery stays untouched during use. No overheating, no sudden shutdowns, no scrambling for a power bank.
Currently the TD2 Geek is compatible with Android smartphones via USB-C. The FOTRIC Genie app is available on the Google Play Store. iPhone support is not available at this time.
The TD2 Geek covers the 2 kHz – 50 kHz frequency range, which spans both audible sounds and ultrasonic signals beyond human hearing. Common real-world uses:
- Home troubleshooting — find air leaks around windows and doors, trace pipe leaks behind walls, locate buzzing electrical components
- Nature & wildlife — spot birds hidden in foliage, track insects by their ultrasonic calls, locate lost pets by their vocalizations
- DIY & workshop — detect compressed air leaks in tools and hoses, find rattling or vibrating components
- Music & audio — visualize instrument resonance, map room acoustics, see how sound waves propagate
- STEM education — demonstrate the physics of sound in a way textbooks never could
The effective detection range is 0.3 m to 100 m. On the close end, below 0.3 m, near-field effects can reduce positioning accuracy. On the far end, loud or high-frequency sources may be picked up beyond 100 m under favorable conditions. For a typical home air leak or bird call, detection at 10–30 m is very reliable.
IP54 means it's protected against dust ingress and water splashes from any direction. Light rain, mist, and dusty environments are fine. But it is not waterproof — don't submerge it or use it in heavy downpours. For outdoor explorers, the 240 g weight makes it light enough to carry on any hike or field trip.
Your ears can tell you a sound exists. They can't show you exactly where it's coming from — especially when the source is hidden,far away, or ultrasonic. Here's what sets the TD2 Geek apart:
- It sees ultrasonic frequencies. Human hearing tops out around 20 kHz. The TD2 Geek reaches 50 kHz, revealing leaks, electrical discharge, and wildlife calls your ears will never catch — while cheap probes typically lock into a single narrow frequency band.
- It shows you the exact location. A probe tells you "there's a leak somewhere over there" with a beep or a needle. The TD2 Geek overlays a colorful acoustic heatmap directly onto your phone screen, pinpointing exactly which joint, valve, or wall spot is the source.
- It finds multiple sources at once. With 64 MEMS microphones capturing sound from different angles simultaneously, you can see
several sound sources in a single view — not just the loudest one. - You get proof, not just a reading. Screenshot the acoustic image and save it. Share it with a contractor, include it in a report, or post it online. A beeping probe leaves you with nothing to show.
In short: a probe translates sound into a tone. The TD2 Geek translates sound into a live video map you can see, record, and share.
