Description

Pesa apenas 0,72 kg.

After spending some time with this TK6 thermal camera I have a lot to tell you. I am experienced with thermal cameras, so I feel like I know what to look for when buying one.

The short review

This thermal camera is two or three steps above all of the 256x192 cameras that are being sold recently. Yes it is twice the price, but it is very impressive. It feels great when being held, and the 110,592 thermal reading pixels (384x288) provides an incredible picture. Fotric the maker of this camera has an actual website, and is a real company with a US headquarters right across the street from Nvidia. I would think twice about buying a camera and not seeing an actual website presence on the internet.

The camera has many color palettes, Picture in Picture, add a spot, add a line, add a box, emissivity and many more settings. It has a removable battery that it shares with other Fotric products. The ability to manually focus is great and is very important for long range viewing or up close viewing. The 3.5” LCD screen is also a touch screen.

I’ve owned thermal cameras from the other “F” companies, you can guess which ones they are. They both are excellent companies with solid good products, but they are very very expensive….this camera competes easily with both of them and wins when you factor in price. If you are a home inspector and have a small company, this is for you. If you own a small to medium sized business and need to keep track of thermal readings monthly or on a schedule this is for you. I’m sure you can create a way to use this cheaper camera to maintain records versus a a lot more expensive camera. Add a $30 case and you’re all set.

In summary I think this camera is worth above and beyond what you pay for it. The lower price cameras will not give you the same picture, features and software. Sometimes in life, you need to spend a little bit more to get a lot more. Some of the 256 x 192 cameras out there you don’t know who makes them, and they don’t have a website. They don’t have an Internet presence, and if you need support it could be a problem. I will be giving this five stars but if I could deduct a half a star I would. I wish it had a decent case to protect it.

My thermal pictures I’ve uploaded are of trees heated by the sun all day and are about 60-80ft. away. One is of a TV on a wall and a heat duct in a basement. The image that shows a barn with a cement path has a 12oz plastic pop bottle with lukewarm warm water next to the path. That bottle is about 80 ft. away. I was trying to remove the automatic hot and cold crosshairs so the bottle could be seen better but couldn’t figure that out in the moment. So I tricked the camera by moving it and taking the picture at the same time. That’s why the hot crosshair isn’t on the bottle.

To start with, I believe this thermal imager might just be the new lowest barrier of entry to the 384x288 IR resolution. My previous thermal imager could "only" do 256x192, and 384x288 is double the amount of total pixels. And while the price may seem high, there's a LOT that one gets for that, not just the high IR resolution. But let's go over the basics.

The imager comes in a cardboard box, but inside a preformed foam cutout. I would highly advise not throwing this cutout away as it can be placed in sturdier waterproof enclosure like a pelican case. Alongside the imager, you get the included battery (5000 mAh, removable), included 32GB SD card (a good quality Sandisk) a USB A to USB C cable, a USB dock for the battery (useful if you get a second battery), and an international USB wall wart with many different plugs. The wall wart is ETL and TUV listed, and is of the highest class VI efficiency.

The screen on the imager is 3.5", and is somewhat surprisingly a touch screen. While you can use the directional pad under the screen for navigation as usual, I found the touchscreen much easier and faster, so it's a very welcome feature.

Quality of the image is outstanding. See example photo showing a circuitboard with specific hotspots. I enabled the combined visual and IR view, which is called "T-DEF fusion". This feature is typically only found on higher priced thermal imagers, and is almost necessary in order to be able to figure out what exactly it is you are looking at, as IR only shows heat and cold. The included laser pointer can also help with this, as an external reference, especially when mounted on a tripod (there's a thread for it).

And that's where one of the main advertised features comes in - manual focus. When mounted on a tripod or otherwise when the image is stationary, you can use the manual focus in combination with the T-DEF view to more precisely focus on your target, which is what I did for my sample photo of the circuit board. Amazing.

Other specs - 40mK thermal sensitivity is good, though not outstanding. There are nine total different pallets for IR view rendering, depending on your own preferences. Two selectable temperature ranges, one from -20-120C, and the other from 0-550C, so this is quite suitable for high temperature measurements. Weight and size in the hand is not bad at all, and the case is very grippy with a lanyard for extra safety from drops. Startup time is relatively quick, around 15 seconds.

The only disadvantage I was able to find so far is that while the imager can be charged or connected to a computer to transfer images directly using the provided USB C to USB A cable (or any other similar cable), it does not support USB C to C cables. This is an unfortunate oversight for such a technologically advanced and pricey item, as it's usually just a few extra components to add that capability. As is, I expect charging to take a while. This is not enough to drop a star, given the preponderance of other features.

Highly recommended.

I have not seen a camera with Manual Focus at this price point. Let alone the great features this has like 384x288 IR Resolution and Removable Battery.
Also the most consistent and accurate temperatures I've personally seen in a thermal camera. The built-in lens cap, bright flashlight and laser pointer are all useful features. Be warned that there is no Autofocus at all and that factors in to the affordable price.

For the price - I have nothing to compare it to, other than to say it works great

I'll start by saying that I've not used a professional grade version of one of these before. I have no reference point. However, I do have a couple of friends that have used them and indicated that this seemed to live up to what they had seen in much more expensive units.

I was like a kid in a candy shop finding all the cold spots in our house and making notes of where to check insulation, which doors needed weather strips replaced, which recepticles on outside walls needed a seal added. Also tried it with some circuit boards (My computer and a raspberry pi) and I was able to see which traces had even the slightest difference in temperature.

Speaking of that. I pointed it at my load center (breaker box) and it showed the slightest difference in temperature. I quickly identified that my washer was running (it was) and the server closet from the subtle differences in heat even though I could not tell a difference with my bare hand.

Really nice find and I can use this for so much!
